Ruby is a type of corundum which crystallizes in the form of tabular & rhombohedral prismatic crystals.  The colour range includes pink, crimson red, & orange-red. It sometimes exhibits dichroism, displaying crimson red & orange-red in the same stone. It also, occasionally, displays asterism [a starlike luminosity in transmitted light]. Some rubies from Thailand also contain analcime crystals. This mineral stimulates the heart chakra & assists one in the selection & attainment of ones ultimate values. It further stimulates the loving emotional side toward nurturing, bringing spiritual wisdom, health, knowledge, & wealth. Ruby is known as a "stone of nobility", gathering & amplifying energy while promoting & stimulating mental concentration. It can improve ones success in controversies & disputes, encouraging gentleness & discouraging violence. It is an excellent shielding stone, protecting on all levels & safeguarding one’s consciousness from psychic attack. In addition, it is said to represent one’s rise from martyrdom, the energy bringing support to assist one to recognize that the option exists with respect to whether one needs or does not need to experience anguish, distress, &/or suffering. It further assists one in relinquishing the need to experience the travails. In ancient cultures, it was also used in the practice of "casting lots", to assist in the determination of resolutions & decisions. It has been used to induce  stability in one’s economic status; it has been said that as long as one retains a bit of ruby, wealth will never depart. It is also said to have been used to protect the wearer/carrier against unhappiness, distressing dreams, & lightning. It is said to have been one of the stones used in the breastplate of the high priest. The energy of the ruby is intense & vivid, bringing lucidity to the dream state & conveying understanding & control of the role & action of the mental state upon the physical realm. The ruby encourages one to follow bliss. It is said that ruby will light the darkness of ones life, giving birth to a spark of light which progresses throughout the body & spirit, conquering darkness on all levels. The energy can assist one in changing one’s world, promoting creativity & expansiveness in awareness & manifestation. It has been used in the treatment of fever, & heart disorders relating to blood flow through the ventricles. It can be used to decrease the length of time required for chemicals & toxins to exit the body.
